There is more inspiration to be found for your art or design than just on the internet. Nature holds valuable lessons about life and death all throughout the year. One of my favorite things to do is go outside in late Autumn and take pictures of the dying flowers. Flowers are lovely during the summer, but I find them intriguing when they are beginning to decay. They remind me that everything has a time on this earth and eventually it will begin to fade.

I also like to take pictures of old architecture and objects that have been forgotten about by man.

In the end, I find that if I get out from in front of my computer every once in a while and explore the world around me, I found myself inspired and just a little bit smarter.

I never have time to update my blog during the semester because of how hectic everything gets. Thankfully, another semester is over and I managed to make all As. I’ve learned a great deal this semester ranging from packaging design, how to design a book, and how to make Fine Art Jewelry. I’m very thankful for all the instruction I’ve received this semester and love learning new things.
Next semester I have a New Media class, which I’m stoked about because I love web design, and Typography II. That should be a great class too. Here are examples of my work from this semester.
Packaging design and concept for organic tea.

Collaborative packaging design and concept for body wash.

Hollowform pendant for Jewelry and Metalsmithing
Hope everyone has a wonderful Holiday season and enjoys lots of time with family and friends. Cheers.

Last semester for my final in Typography One we have to do a collection of sixty two pictograms depicting the history of visual design. I was thrilled with the project even though I found it challenging. We were to take complex images and strip them down to simple illustrations. Minimal design is my bread and butter. I finished my pictograms, felt accomplished, but as time past I found them sitting on my computer and I couldn’t figure out what to do with them.
Then one night I couldn’t sleep - all my great ideas come to me this way - and I thought of doing a poster series called ‘Eras in Art History.’ I would use some of the pictograms I did in class and couple them with a cute phrase while giving the whole thing a retro advertisement feel. I started with this:

I felt they needed to be cleaned up a bit and given a little more pizzazz. Here is the work in progress for several of the pieces:

Then I coupled the pieces with cute sayings such as:

I still feel that the pieces need a little extra something, but I have yet to pinpoint it. Suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks!

Last year while I was sitting in my Art History class, I found myself drawing swirls all over my notebook. Granted, I should have been paying attention to the art of the Easter Islands, or whatever it was we were learning, but I found myself obsessed with drawing swirls. This past semester, I had a wonderful printmaking teacher who gave us a lot of room to bring out own artistic visions to the projects we were doing. Around the second or third project of the semester, we got to make stamps and one of the first thoughts that came to my mind was swirls.

See I told you I was obsessed.
